Dalaland is a new bakery with Swiss rolls in Tanjong Pagar
Growing up, one of my fondest memories is indulging in the strawberry Swiss roll from Polar Puffs & Cakes—a simple yet comforting treat that never failed to make my day. So when I first heard about Dalaland, a new bakery in Tanjong Pagar specialising in Swiss rolls, I knew I had to check it out ASAP.
You can look forward to six roll cake flavours here, all baked without preservatives, margarine, or artificial substitutes.
Matcha lovers, go straight for the Intense Uji Matcha Slice ($8.90), which sees uji matcha jelly and whipped cream encased in an earthy matcha sponge cake. The green tea flavour was not too overpowering, and I liked that it was distinct enough to please both beginners and avid fans of the grassy, umami notes in matcha.
For something lighter, I recommend the Lychee Rose Slice ($8.50), packed with lychee-spiked whipped cream and small flower petals placed elegantly atop each slice. The fruity lychee notes were more prominent than its rose counterpart, making this a great pick for those with a sweet tooth.
The Mango Citrus Slice ($8.50) is another refreshing pick, with each slice loaded with French whipped cream, juicy mango cubes, and a layer of tangy lemon chantilly.
I enjoyed the beautiful sea blue French Earl Grey Slice ($8.50), infused with TWG and Twinings Earl Grey tea. This dessert is great for those who love Earl Grey, as the rich and fragrant bergamot notes stand out with every bite.
If you prefer classic flavours, opt for the Classic Vanilla Maple Slice ($8.40) or the 70% Dark Chocolate Slice ($8.90). The latter is perfect for those who enjoy rich and bittersweet flavours.
The whipped cream in the cakes was extra rich and creamy, almost like it was made with Hokkaido milk. But if you prefer lighter flavours, we recommend pairing the cakes with a refreshing beverage to quell the heaviness.
For easy access, Dalaland is a convenient seven-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.
The shop was rather small, with only six al fresco seats available. Since the heat has been relentless these days, we recommend opting for takeaway and having them in the comfort of your own home, with a cup of tea to complete your midday pick-me-up.
