The area around Tyrwhitt Road is filled with makan places like kopitiams, Chye Seng Huat Hardware Cafe, and the crowd-favourite Cheng Mun Chee Kee Pig Organ Soup. Adding to that list is a spanking-new coffee shop called 153 Brew Cafe, which just opened its doors on 27 Sep 2024.

153 brew cafe - lok lok stall

The kopitiam houses 9 stalls including drinks. Without further ado, let me introduce the food options you can find here. Starting with Bo Gek Kao Lok Lok, they sell over 45 varieties of lok lok like BBQ Cheese Chicken Sausage, Craw Claw and Ham Enoki for just S$1 per stick.

Choose to enjoy them with sprinkles like Seaweed, Sour Cream or Salted Egg Yolk or add S$3 for Nacho Cheese Sauce. For a no-frills meal, you can get the Teriyaki Bento Set (S$5.80 for beef or mutton) or Lala & Prawn (S$6.80) that comes with your choice of soup base and carbs.

153 brew cafe - tong fatt

For a solidly-good plate of chicken rice, swing by Tong Fong Fatt, a brand with over 3 decades in the food business, boasting 30 outlets across Singapore.

Indulge in Steamed Chicken Rice (S$4.80), Shredded Chicken Macaroni (S$3.50) and Chicken Curry Noodles (S$5.30). The chicken here is moist and tender, and the clear broth served with the chicken rice has a distinct herbal flavour, setting it apart from other establishments.

153 brew cafe - 2 stalls

Non La Vietnamese Kitchen returns from the previous coffeeshop with 29 varieties of Vietnamese delights such as Smoke Duck Baguette (S$6.50), Grilled Pork Rice (S$8.50) and Vietnamese Rice Pancakes (Bánh xèo) for S$10.50.

If you’re hungry in the wee hours of dawn, you can rely on 24-hour Tanjong Rhu Wanton Noodle for your noodle fix. Feast on the Signature Wanton Noodle (S$5), Wanton Soup (S$5) and Dumpling Noodle (S$5.50).

153 brew cafe - fish

Those who enjoy the robust spices of Chinese-regional dishes can head towards Hua Shuang Kitchen where they serve up Chong Qing Grilled Fish (S$25.80) that comes with 5 side ingredients.

Tantalise your taste buds with Mala Fried Rice (S$5), Twice-Cooked Pork (S$10), Mala Prawn (S$14) and Spicy Veg Sliced Fish (S$14)— just prepare some tissues on the side just in case (winks).

153 brew cafe - bak kut teh stall

A new entry to Singapore’s food scene is fresh-faced Ah Yen Bak Kut Teh, which will be serving up white pepper-style pork ribs soup. Not much is known of the stall yet as it wasn’t ready on the opening day.
