Family Hakata – Halal mookata, lok-lok & seafood galore for just $19.90

Must Try

Family Hakata is one of the first stalls to serve halal mookata in Singapore. Located at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, it also has something no one else has: a S$19.90 per pax deal for a minimum of 2 people. It was halal-certified on 22 Jul 2026.

The first thing you notice is that you won’t be starving for options. You’d be forgiven for assuming they have every variety of seafood in their freezer. From salmon to young lobster, it’ll take some time for you to try everything. Luckily, there’s no time limit, so you can taste to your heart’s content.

Several types of marinated meat are also available in the fridge. Both beef and chicken are marinated in a variety of ways, so you will never get tired of the same protein. There are also processed foods like crab sticks, cheese tofu, and more that you can select for their famous lok-lok.

Family Hakata - Freezer Seafood

I tried the staples and some items I’ve never tried. I personally have never experienced mookata before, so I was surprised to see whole shellfish like crab and young lobster available to choose from.

I also added baby squid, oysters, and snails. I would like to mention that the staff at Family Hakata were very nice and helpful, especially since this was a completely new experience for me.

Family Hakata - Seafood

Most of the seafood was decent, nothing crazy. The baby squid wasn’t for me. The broth was just a stock cube in water, as far as I can tell. What elevates the entire experience, however, is the sauces. Their red and green chilli sauces add salty, sweet, and sour notes to the soup and the meats. They also have several other dipping sauces and seasonings that are worth a shot. The salmon was nice and fatty, with no fishy taste at all.

Family Hakata - Mookata Pan

The crab and young lobster, while generous, didn’t fit the mookata pan at all. I had to cook it one side at a time, leaving some parts undercooked. It was quite finicky overall, so I would avoid the bigger shellfish. I would suggest maybe cutting the shellfish further so it can fit the pot better.

Family Hakata - Lok-lok

The best part was the lok-lok, where I added chicken nuggets, cheese tofu, enoki and king mushrooms. I threw in some veggies for health purposes, of course.

The lok-lok is fried nicely and not too oily. The seasoning is salty, slightly tart, and sweet all at once, and it’s practically caked onto every bite. The cheese dip adds a creamy, cheesy touch. These are yummy bites to have while you wait for your meats to cook. I’d also suggest metal utensils, as chopsticks and plastic utensils made it hard to flip the meat and move ingredients around.

All in all, I can see myself coming back for the deal and the lok-lok alone. For only S$19.90, all those options are worth it, and a few quality-of-life changes would make it even better. Do note that this deal is for a minimum of 2 people.
