Ex-SG goalie’s Dapur Hassan stall closes after 3 years

Must Try

After 3 years in business, Dapur Hassan closed its doors on 4 Oct 2026. This is sad news for my fellow east-siders, as it was one of the quality stalls selling traditional Malay staples to locals and tourists.

Hassan Sunny, the Singapore national ex-goalkeeper opened the stall mainly to supplement his income as a professional footballer. But what started as a side hustle eventually became a passion project. During its heyday, he helped manage the stall during the off season. Truly a national hero in more ways than one, he juggled both his professional career and his family business at the same time.

Dapur Hassan first went viral when he performed outstandingly during the 2024 World Cup Qualifiers. He made 11 saves against Thailand, which inadvertently helped China advance in the tournament. This drew many tourists to visit his stall, resulting in a sudden surge in demand. This also allowed many people who are unfamiliar with Malay cuisine to taste something not many visitors would be aware of on a first visit.

Another interesting thing to happen in this humble stall’s history is that our very own President, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and the First Lady, Jane Ittogi, paid it a visit for SG@Home Celebrations 2024. They were there for a short video for the event and Hassan, President Tharman and First Lady Ittogi ended up sharing a bowl of bee hoon soto and nasi sambal goreng.

Known for the classics, they served simple yet comforting Malay food. From local favourites like mee rebus to more “if you know, you know” dishes like lontong, I guarantee there was something to satisfy your cravings. Don’t feel too down, though! They did announce that their business will continue through the Grab app, where residents can continue to order their satisfying dishes.

While this may be the end of the Dapur Hassan stall, it is definitely not goodbye. After a short break, they will return in full force on Grab. Stay tuned to their Instagram and Facebook for any more updates.
