DIY Ornament: Wax, Dried Botanicals & Essential Oils
Here’s what you’ll need:
Coconut oil
Soy wax or beeswax
Dried flower petals and herbs (lavender, thyme and/or rosemary sprigs, etc.)
Essential oils (fir needle, peppermint, sweet orange, clove and cinnamon, etc.)
Baking sheet
Parchment paper
Silicone molds
Double boiler
Wooden or metal skewer
Toothpicks
Ribbon or twine
Directions
1. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange molds. Lightly coat each mold with a layer of coconut oil.
2. Use double boiler to melt wax, stirring with skewer. Once thoroughly melted add essential oils and stir. Then pour hot wax into molds around 1/3 of the way. Let cool for 30 seconds, then add herb sprigs and florals. Use toothpick to gently push botanicals slightly into wax. Pour a little more wax on top. Let cool for around 2 minutes (until the wax around the edges starts to solidify).
3. Insert toothpick at the top of each ornament. Allow wax to harden before removing it (should take around an hour).
3. Cool at room temperature overnight or up to 24 hours.
4. Once fully solidified, carefully remove ornaments from mold. Thread ribbon or twine through hole.
