Tucked within an unassuming coffee shop at Hougang 435A lies one of Singapore’s greatest hawkers, Hougang Oyster Omelette & Char Kway Teow. And after a wait, the stall has finally reopened its doors.
The stall owners originally announced their temporary closure on 16 Aug 2025 on their Facebook page. They cited renovations of the coffee shop as the reason for the closure. The stall reopened on 14 Sep 2025 with a brand-new glowing signage above their stall (that looks about the same as the old one).

To celebrate the occasion, the stall owners opened their doors on a Mon and Tue (15 Sep 2025 and 16 Sep 2025), when they usually close during those days.
What they sell is pretty obvious; it’s in the name. They offer their Hougang Fried Oyster Omelette (S$6 for small, S$7 for large) and Fried Kway Teow (S$4 for small, S$4.50 for large). Long-time SethLui readers may remember the last time we discussed this stall, and notice the heartbreaking S$1 price hike.
But don’t fret, even with these price hikes, the loving auntie and uncle couple who run the stall will never short-change or shrink-flate your plate. Loyal customers often praise their generous portions and the sheer size of the oysters, with some even claiming them to be as big as an adult’s thumb.
It’s a must-try for any orh luak lover in Singapore, including me.
Of course, there’s also their Fried Kway Teow. You can tell how much wok hei it has from the sheer amount of charred bits alone. It’s a classic, nostalgic-tasting char kway teow that people flock to every day.
In an unfortunate time where hawker stalls are closing left and right, it’s heartening to see stalwarts like Hougang Oyster Omelette & Char Kway Teow carry on strong.
