Besides boasting high-tech features and countless independent and local boutiques, it also features dining spots ranging from grab-and-go kiosks to lovely family-friendly restaurants. For those looking for food near the City Hall MRT Station, here are 20 food places at Funan Mall.


1. Keming Bing Sat


If you love char siew rice, save Keming Bing Sat to your list of must-visit places. This popular cha chaan teng has sold millions of char siew rice in just a year, and you can finally try it for yourself at their Plaza Singapura and Funan outlets. A bowl costs $10.90++, featuring fluffy Wuchang rice with caramelised char siew, two sunny-side-up eggs, and some veggies. To go with your meal, get the adorable Little Bear Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea or Signature Iced Lemon Tea, priced at $4.90++ each.

For award-winning Japanese curry, head to Maji Curry located next to Keming Bing Sat. There are over 15 curry dishes here, with the most popular order being the Hamburger Steak Cheese Sauce Curry Rice (from $14.30++). A huge plate comes with rice doused in a special house-made curry sauce, topped with tender hamburger steak and finished with melted cheese. The Tonkatsu Omelette Curry (from $14.50++) is great if you want to swap the cheese with egg, and hamburger steak with crispy pork cutlet.

5. Yakiniku Shokudo


Yakiniku Shokudo is a halal-certified yakiniku chain that offers wallet-friendly Japanese barbecue. Meat platters start from just $8.90 for chicken, but if you’re dining with a friend, it’s highly suggested you order the Shokudo Set (from $21.90++), which comes with half a beef steak, and slices of beef tongue as well as karubi, rice, three dipping sauces, and two sides. Their Beef Bibimbap ($8.80) is a standout, arriving sizzling in a stone bowl. Happy Hour for alcoholic drinks happens from 12pm to 9pm daily. If you’re looking for a quick bite or drink, Sinpopo Coffee at the atrium is your best bet with their extensive menu of deliciously sinful cakes, shakes, and sandwiches. Must-tries include their popular Steamed Tapioca Kueh ($5 for two) and Peanut Mochi ($3.50)

They have a selection of quality house-made drinks, and some of the more interesting ones are Chendol Latte ($7.50), made with espresso, gula melaka syrup, coconut milk, and chendol, and Cookie Milk Latte (from $7), which combines espresso and a special house-made cookie milk.

Famous Taiwanese bakery, Kazo, is best known for their filled cream puffs and cheese tarts—they’re great if you’re looking for a quick dessert fix in Funan. The Crispy Cream Puff is a house signature, and comes with a shell with craquelin baked over for a bit of crunch. The Chocolate ($2.80) is a crowd favourite, as it features a rich chocolate cream that isn’t too sweet. If you’re more of a tart lover, the Baked Cheese Tart ($4) is one to try. The sweet cream cheese filling is baked till slightly caramelised on top, adding depth to its flavour.

DIY pasta has been quite the trend over the past couple of years, with kiosks popping up around the island offering build-your-own pasta combos at wallet-friendly prices. Little Ribbons Pasta Co is one such eatery, offering affordable pasta bowls. Pick a pasta, then a sauce, and add on as many toppings as you desire. There are five types of pasta and sauces to pick from, and eight different toppings. If you’re spoilt for choice, the kiosk also has premixed bowls available.

It can be hard to find good halal Sichuan food, but that’s where Delibowl comes in. A must-try is their Sichuan Style Fried Eggplant ($10.95), where slivers of fried aubergine are tossed in a moreish black bean sauce. Another popular pick is their Mapo Tofu ($7.75), but be sure to have a glass of water by your side just in case.

17. Sukiya

Sukiya is a popular joint for affordable gyudon bowls. Bowls are priced from just $4.90 here for their regular Gyudon, but you can also enjoy the signature zhnged-up with toppings such as kimchi or cheese. The beef slices here are simmered in a sweet and savoury shoyu broth, alongside sliced onions for maximum flavour. For those who aren’t familiar with the brand, Sukiya was first introduced in Yokohama in 1962.

There’s always a long queue at Ajumma’s restaurant when you’re at Funan Mall. The casual Korean diner has all the usual suspects, with some hot favourites. A popular choice is the Fried Chicken & Crispy Toppoki with Sweet-Spicy Sauce ($12.90++), a bowlful of crispy chicken and tteokbokki in a sweet and smoky sauce.
