About Fruit and Nut Chocolate

Fruit and nut chocolate is one of those treats that never feels boring. I love how it brings together so many textures and flavors in one bite. The smooth dark chocolate along with crunchy nuts and the chewy dried fruits give little bursts of sweetness and tartness. Every piece feels slightly different, and that’s what makes it so enjoyable.

I used my favorite dried fruits like apricots, cranberries, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, almonds and raisins. The chocolate which I used is dark and it complimented with the fruits and nuts. I also added some grated orange rind which adds a hint of fresh taste without overpowering.

During Christmas, this fruit and nut chocolate becomes one of my favorite homemade gifts. I pour it into moulds, break it into pieces, wrap it neatly, and share it with family, friends and neighbours. It makes a lovely edible gift that feels personal and festive, without being complicated.

I also like keeping a small batch in the freezer during the holiday season. A piece of this chocolate with a cup of tea or coffee feels perfect on cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Chocolate – this can be totally to your taste. You can use dark, milk or even semi sweet chocolate. You can swap, depending on the sweetness you are looking for.

Dried Fruits – You can use raisins, golden sultanas, cranberries and dried apricots. Alternatively you can use candied mixed peels, dried blueberries, strawberries as well.

Nuts & Seeds – a combo of almonds, cashews, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, sunflower seeds.

Orange Zest – a small amount of orange zest infuses wonderful flavour into the chocolate.

Coconut oil – a little oil helps make the chocolate shiny, glossy and smooth.

Step by Step Pictures

1)Prepare your nuts and dried fruits.

2)Take your chocolate mould. I used my large dubai chocolate mould. Add nuts and dried fruits in which ever pattern you like.

3)Take chopped dark chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Add in coconut oil and pop it into microwave. Melt it on high for 10 seconds interval. Remove every 10 seconds and give a mix so the chocolate melts evenly.

It will take around 30 to 40 seconds for the chocolate to be completely melted. Alternatively you can melt them over a double boiler.

4)Remove from microwave and mix really well so the chocolate is melted and smooth. Add in orange zest and mix well.

5)Now the chocolate is ready to pour over the dried fruits.

6)Now pour this over the dried fruits and nuts.

7)Gently tap to spread evenly. Place this in fridge or freezer for 1 hour.

8)Now the chocolate is set.

9)De-mould and break into barks. Enjoy as it is or pack it and give as gifts.
