This Baked BBQ chicken is a staple at our house. Every bite is loaded with tons of great flavors. It’s comfort food at its finest, guaranteed to leave you craving seconds and dreaming about it for days to come.

How to Make Baked BBQ Chicken
This dish is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. Place butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish or rimmed baking sheet and place in the oven until melted. Set aside. In a shallow dish, stir together Bisquick and BBQ seasoning. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Coast chicken breasts in the Bisquick mixture, then dip into the egg mixture and coat in the Bisquick mixture again. Place the chicken in the melted butter in the baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. Remove the chicken from the oven and top with barbecue sauce, crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, and french fried onions. Return to the oven for about five minutes, until the cheese has melted. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
- You can use this marinade on any cut of chicken– chicken breasts, chicken tenders, chicken thighs, chicken wings, or chicken drumsticks/legs.
- You can use boneless or bone-in chicken. Adjust the cooking time to ensure an internal temperature of 165ºF.
- You can use skinless or skin-on chicken.
- I suggest pounding the chicken breast to an even thickness. We put the chicken in a ziplock bag and use a flat meat mallet to carefully pound out the hump. This ensures that the chicken cooks evenly and you don’t have juicy chicken and half-dry chicken.
- Our favorite store-bought BBQ sauces are Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, G.Hughes, and Williamson Brothers. I buy them all at Walmart.
- Here is our recipe for Homemade BBQ Seasoning made with salt, brown sugar, paprika, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and dry mustard: https://www.plainchicken.com/bbq-seasoning/
