A country club membership is one of the original Five Cs of Singapore, alongside cash, car, credit card and condominium. It’s one of the symbols that apparently proclaim that you have ‘made it’ in the rat race. With close to 20 country clubs and social clubs in Singapore, we have a sixth ‘C’: Choice. So, which is the best country club in Singapore? We take a closer look.
Why join a country club in Singapore?
There is the prestige of having a country club decal in your windshield, right? But a country club membership is so much more.
One of the main reasons people join is for is recreation, with many country clubs focused on golf, equestrian, water sports and cricket. Don’t seem to be able to book a pickleball court on ActiveSG? The odds are you’ll have a much easier time getting one at your country club. Gym memberships can be expensive but most country clubs give you free access to a full gym and even trainers. All have swimming pools, too.
Most country clubs in Singapore have a distinct family focus. You will find that they offer amenities that promote family cohesion and regularly organise family-friendly events. A country club can also be a very social-centric destination, ideal for networking opportunities. Some clubs in Singapore have an expatriate-heavy membership and are homes away from home for working professionals.
Many country clubs in Singapore also offer reciprocal access to prestigious clubs around the world. They are perfect for a round of golf on an exotic course while on holiday or for a no-cost family getaway after all the sightseeing.
When considering the best country club, you may also want to consider whether the club allows membership transfers. This means that you can sell off your membership in the future when you no longer feel you’re getting enough value from it. In this sense, club memberships can work as an investment.
