The Masala Akki Roti Recipe is a delicious spicy flat bread from Karnataka that is made from rice flour. The akki roti makes a great vegan and gluten free breakfast option. Made from rice flour, shredded vegetables and spices, the Akki Roti makes for an excellent tea time snack when you have sudden guests at home.

There are different variations and recipes to make akki roti across Karnataka. This recipe is a simple recipe which even beginners can follow and make delicious foolproof akki rotis. We have made thee roti on a wet muslin cloth and then transferred the roti to the hot pan. You can even use banana leaves to make the roti on. Some people make them directly on a greased cast iron pan.

The main ingredients in all akki roti is grated coconut, cumin seeds, green chillies and rice flour. But most people add dill leaves and grated carrots and cabbage and capsicum as well to the akki roti. Adding vegetables make the akki roti more nutritious an also tasty.
