With costs rising in Singapore, I’m certain you’ll be looking for places that will not break your budget. So, where can you find great food, coupled with a picturesque setting to set the mood for your romantic date? 

After scouting high and low, I proudly present to you my list of 11 affordable romantic restaurants in Singapore to dine at with the special person in your life.

How I chose the best affordable romantic restaurants

These are the 3 main criteria I used to decide which restaurants to recommend:

• Budget-friendly: The main criterion — these restaurants are suitable for couples who want a reasonably priced meal at S$70 and below per pax.
• Romantic setting: The very close second factor — all feature an intimate ambience, scenic views or a distinctive setting suited to dates.
• Good food: A very close third — they are known for appealing dishes or signature specialities that make the restaurant worth visiting.

1. Good Bites

When you’re searching for a romantic venue, a sports centre will probably be the last thing on your mind. Not when it comes to Bishan Sports Centre, though. It houses Good Bites, a late-night Halal-certified Western fusion cafe that closes at 5am daily.

Good Bites has a comfortable indoor dining area, making it a good option if you want some air-conditioning. But at the same time, there’s also a romantic outdoor patio decorated with fairy lights that offers breathtaking views of the area. Look out for their Weekday Lunch Set on the menu, which is an absolutely good deal not to be missed. This deal is available Mon to Thu from 11am – 4pm. 

Top up S$6.90 when you buy any main to get an appetiser and a drink. Their King Prawns Tom Yum Linguine (S$16.90) is not to be missed if you like a rich, savoury meal. Turkey Bacon & Chicken Ham Carbonara (S$10.90) is a good option for those wanting something creamy and velvety. 

For the appetiser, you can choose a seasonal salad if you’re feeling healthy, or French fries if you’re not. You can also top up S$1 for mushroom soup for some hearty mushroom goodness.

What’s a meal without a drink? Opt for the typical canned drink or hot tea at no extra cost. Otherwise, you can jazz up your meal with hot/iced coffee at an extra S$1.80. Coffee flavours you can look forward to include vanilla, mocha and caramel, yum.

There’s just something so comforting about being with nature. The calming sounds of birds and the surrounding greenery filled colourful flowers are always invigorating. Canopy HortPark‘s romantic and relaxing atmosphere comprises an al fresco section and a cosy indoor dining area for when the weather gets too hot.

The menu has brunch items, burgers, pasta, pizza, and so much more. If you’re dining there before 2.30pm on a weekday, why not try their delicious lunch set for S$20.90++?

Start your meal off with your choice of Soup of the Day or a refreshing House Salad. Quench your thirst with Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Iced Lemon Tea, Long Black (+S$2) or a Latte (+S$2).

Pick between Fish & Chips, Grilled Chicken Thigh, Prawn Aglio Olio and Bacon & Mushroom Aglio Olio for your main dish. For vegetarians, the restaurant also has an especially delicious Vegetarian Pasta option with spaghetti, assorted vegetables, garlic, chilli and olive oil.

3. Pietro Ristorante Italiano

With Pietro Ristorante Italiano on Jalan Kelulut, you no longer have to travel to town for high-quality, scrumptious Italian cuisine. This comfortable mid-sized restaurant has an indoor seating capacity of 56 and an outdoor al fresco area which can accommodate 32 people.

You’ll find all the classic favourites on the menu, including wood-fired handmade pizzas, plates of fresh pasta and creamy risotto for all the food your heart desires. 

Indulge in heartwarming soups like the Blue Swimmer Crab Bisque (S$12.90) and Zuppa Di Funghi (S$9.90) (mushroom soup). You can even pair it with the Focaccia Al Tartufo (S$15.90), which has truffle cream, mozzarella cheese and rosemary stuffed into the bread.

Carb lovers, be sure to order the Ravioli Al Frutti Di Mare (S$28.90). You’ll be blown away by this dish, which features homemade stuffed pasta with seafood. The dish is served with crayfish, chilli padi, pink sauce and grated Reggiano cheese.

For something richer and more decadent, go for the Gnocchi Al Quattro Formaggi (S$28.90). The dish is cooked in a 4-cheese sauce made of mozzarella, parmesan, gorgonzola and feta.

4. WINESTONE

WINESTONE is situated in Mercure Singapore On Stevens, and I found the dining space to be intimate and inviting. The chic brown-accented interior with a sparkling arch of warm hanging lights makes the restaurant feel less formal.

The weekday set menu is particularly tempting, with the 2-course set at S$28++ and 3-course set at S$38++. These weekday sets are available Mon to Thu from 12.30pm – 9pm.

There’s plenty to choose from across the menu, but the Slow-cooked Beef Bolognese is one I’d gravitate towards, with tender beef ragu coating spaghetti and a generous sprinkling of Grana Padano. For something creamier, the Truffle Forest Mushroom Risotto delivers plenty of earth and toasty flavours.

Meat lovers should go for the Chicken Parmigiana, featuring crispy breaded chicken as the star. If you want an elevated classic, choose the Beer-battered Snapper & Chips.

The appetisers spoil you for choice as well, with Hot Honey Paprika Wings and Gambas Al Ajillo (+S$2) among the options. For dessert, opt for the Tableside Pandan Creme Brulee, where crackling caramel pairs with fragrant and soft pandan custard.

5. Zorba The Greek Taverna

Zorba The Greek Taverna sits on the Singapore River waterfront along Clarke Quay. If you’re looking for some quiet time away from the city, then head over here for some delicious Greek food while watching the sunset and enjoying the river breeze. The restaurant’s ambience takes inspiration from the charming white-and-blue architecture of Santorini.

Pamper your taste buds with their range of appetisers; my picks are the Pan-Seared Saganaki Cheese (S$16), which is served with honey and lemon wedges, and the Beef Moussaka (S$26). You can even share a delicious Spanakopita (S$18), a spinach, yoghurt and feta cheese-filled pastry with your date.

Get seduced by the aromatic smells coming from the Htapothi Sti Skhara (S$32), which is essentially grilled, marinated Gilmar octopus legs with oven-roasted potatoes, topped with lemon wedges.

Pescatarians won’t be left out here either. The Greek-Style Oven-Baked Mediterranean Sea Bass (S$28) makes for a satisfying option, while Garides Saganaki (S$28) brings pan-seared red sea prawns together with tangy tomato sauce, creamy feta cheese and rice.

Located at 9 Penang Road, Estuary Restaurant & Bar is a seafood-forward restaurant and bar serving everything from starters to hearty mains and desserts. The atmosphere is perfect for couples wanting something relaxed and casual. 

If you’re heading there for dinner, enjoy their starters before you dig into the main. I recommend the Grilled Octopus (S$21), which comes with baby potatoes and nduja aioli. For something crispy, get their Crab Toast (S$17) with ricotta and tobiko. 

Their hearty mains are worth digging into, especially the Sakura Pork Chop (S$39), which comes with a sweet-tangy grape agrodolce and fragrant fennel pollen. For something more indulgent, the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Waffles (S$32/S$58) hits the spot with crispy fried chicken, fluffy waffles, hot honey and hot sauce.

Why not try out the best Fish & Chips (S$28) in town? Or so they claim. Savour all 200 grams of their succulent fish fillet encased in a light, airy batter. Pair it with their tangy in-house-made tartare sauce for extra flavour and oomph.

7. Fat Prince

Fat Prince, formerly known as The Prince, is a contemporary restaurant that serves up creative Middle Eastern food on Peck Seah Street. The atmosphere boasts warm lights and wooden undertones that exude a luxurious vibe.

For just S$29++, their 4-course set lunch is a steal! To start, you’ll have a choice of dips (Labneh, Cashew Hummus, Baba Ganoush or Muhammara). You’ll also have a choice of 6 mezzes (Tabbouleh, Fattoush, Fried Cauliflower, Falafel, Halloumi and Crispy Calamari). 

You can choose 2 kebabs or 1 grain bowl (+S$5) for your main, and the fillings options are Grilled King Oyster Mushroom, Crispy Red Snapper, Roasted Chicken, Braised Lamb Shoulder, Beef Cheek Stew (+S$5). 

You can’t end your meal without trying either their Lemon Cake or Baklava Ice Cream (+S$3) for some sweet goodness.

You can also head over there after the sun sets for a romantic night out. Munch on some yummy appetisers such as the Fried Cauliflower (S$16), Chicken Skewer (S$14) and Fried Calamari (S$18).

Be sure to save some stomach space for their desserts. Enjoy the Dubai Chocolate Knafeh (S$15) with dark chocolate, rose, and pistachio ice cream. Or you can tuck into some Baklava Ice Cream (S$14) served with filo and sesame brittle.

If you think that romantic restaurants are usually indoors and look posh, you’re not wrong. But dining outdoors can be just as romantic, especially if you want a change of scenery. A perfect example would be Trapizza, which is a casual Italian pizzeria located on Siloso Beach in Sentosa — perfect for beach-loving couples!

During the day, the open-air layout lets you enjoy the cool sea breeze while getting a healthy dose of vitamin D at the same time. Taking a nice stroll on the beach after dinner can be super nice as well.

Be spoiled for choice with their 13 types of handcrafted thin-crust pizzas — they have something for everyone. The Pizza Inferno (S$26) is topped with smoked chicken, roasted capsicums, button mushrooms, artichokes, chilli flakes, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, oregano and garlic oil.

The Pizza Siciliana (S$30) is a luxurious mix of traditional Sicilian pork sausage, pork salami, roasted capsicums, red onions, baby spinach, tomato sauce, oregano, and garlic oil.

They also offer 10 varieties of Pinsa, a traditional Roman-style pizza that has an egg-free, dairy-free crust that’s crispy on the edges and fluffy on the inside. Savour the Pinsa Napoli (S$25) topped with burnt cherry tomatoes on vine, buffalo mozzarella and basil.

Besides various types of pasta, Trapizza also has Risotto Di Mare (S$30) (seafood risotto), Tiramisu (S$15) and Gelato (S$5 for 1 scoop).

Who said French cuisine has to be expensive? At Saveur, you get the best of both worlds — authentic French cuisine with affordable prices. The ambience is minimalist, with a simple monochromatic layout paired with wooden accents, making the space feel chic yet cosy.

Get their Date Night for 2 set, which costs S$68++, available Tue to Sun. The set comes with 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks, perfect for a hearty and complete meal if you ask me. If you want to play it safe for the starters, opt for the Saveur Pasta or Charcuterie Board (+S$4). For the more adventurous, Foie Gras and Escargot are also on the starters menu.

Indulge in their hearty mains, featuring options such as Duck Confit, Halibut, and Lamb Shank. I’d also consider upgrading to the Steak Frites (+S$8) or Lobster Pasta (+S$10) for something more indulgent.

For lovers of all things potato, there’s an optional add-on of Truffle Fries at S$10 and Truffle Fries with Mash Potato at S$15. To quench your thirst, their drink selection includes familiar soft drinks such as Coke and Sprite. If you’re a caffeine addict like me, top up S$3 for Black or White Coffee.

Caffe Fernet is housed at the iconic Customs House, which offers spectacular views of the bay with Marina Bay Sands as the backdrop. The hip spot offers a fresh perspective on traditional Italian cuisine by combining local produce with the most unexpected ingredients.

If you’re a pasta aficionado, you must get the Tagliatelle Beef Ragu (S$35) served with wagyu beef, pancetta and smoked provolone. For something that will give a boost to your senses with a local twist, the Pandan Negroni (S$23) is a sweet combination of Tanqueray Gin, Campari, Cinzano Rosso, pandan and coconut.

To complement your main, you can get an assortment of small plates such as Broccoli (S$21) that comes with hazelnut, green chilli and grain mustard. You can’t go wrong with a plate of Grilled Tiger Prawns (S$29) slathered with luscious tomato gazpacho and smoked green chilli.

Feast on large plates like the Branzino Piccata (S$48), flavoured with buttermilk, lemon and trout roe for a seafood-forward dish. There’s always space for dessert, right? The Cherry Berry Crumble (S$16) will give you a refreshingly tart yet sweet treat.

You’ll be mesmerised by the Australian-inspired restaurant and bar where ‘outback meets chic’, according to them. This steak spot is for couples who take their meat seriously and want only the freshest, most premium ingredients.

Enjoy the 3-course Dinner Set Menu (S$48++) or 4-course Dinner Set Menu (S$58++), beginning with starters like Wagyu Steak Tartare (2 pcs) and Baked Scallop (2 pcs).

If you’re like me and would opt for the 4-course set, enjoy your umami French Onion Soup or earthy Porcini Mushroom Soup.
