Searching for your next hangout spot after work? Satori opens its doors in the CBD area this week. This yakitori restaurant located on Amoy Street debuted on 15 May and features over 50 different grilled skewers, so you will be spoilt for choice.

Upon entering, you will notice the striking red hues of the restaurant interior. This represents the high-energy spirit Satori hopes to bring!
Walk deeper into the restaurant and you will find a section dedicated to intimate dining experiences. With dividers between the sections, the size of the room can be adjusted depending on the size of your group! If you’re in the mood for singing, they have a karaoke set as well!
What to order at Satori
At our media preview, we got to explore the various offerings on their menu.

To start our meal, we had the Nori Salad (S$9.80). This isn’t your typical salad, because you will notice that it comes with a special topping after you hear a crunch in your mouth. This isn’t from the lettuce or seaweed, but from whitebait, a rare addition to the salad! Their sauce is also homemade, and you won’t taste it anywhere else!

Soon after, we had the Truffle Seafood Chawanmushi (S$9.80)! The chawanmushi didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed the strong aroma of truffle.

Now, it was time for the star of the show. As we watched the chef in action, we were each given a bowl of raw egg as a dip for our skewers.
​
The Tsukune (Minced Chicken) (S$6.80 per stick) was the first skewer to arrive and we had a go at its original taste. It was sweet and savoury, but a little dry.

After being dipped it into the egg, it was better!

We also tried the Seseri (Chicken Neck), Bonjiri (Chicken Tail) and Tebaski (Chicken Mid Wing), all at S$6.80 per stick. Like the minced chicken, they were all savoury taste, although a little more than I like. That’s when the egg dip comes into play to neutralise the intensity!

Texture-wise, I enjoyed the chewiness of the neck and mid wing, and the crisp outer layer of the tail.

Meanwhile, the Sunagimo (Chicken Gizzard) (S$3.80 per stick) gave off a different taste and texture from the other meats. While I didn’t really enjoy the faint burnt smell and gamey taste, you may like it if you’re into intense meat flavours!

Next were the Cherry Tomato skewers (S$6.80 per stick). Being a cherry tomato lover, I was so overwhelmed with excitement that I forgot to take a photo before finishing the first skewer, oops!
The tomato skin is so thin that the moment your teeth land on it, the tangy tomato juice explodes into your mouth! Needless to say, this was one of my favourites!

Into something bitter? The Shishito (Green Pepper) (S$5.80 per stick) adds a different flavour to enhance the whole Satori experience! Its strong bitter taste balances the savouriness of the meat skewers and the sweetness of the cherry tomatoes, and lingers in your mouth for a long time.

Besides the chicken and vegetable skewers, we also tried the firm Pork Jowl and the juicy Buta Kakuni (Braised Pork Belly), both at S$7.80 per stick!
​These pork skewers lean towards a more savoury taste. If you’re planning to have alcohol along with your meat or enjoy strong flavours, you’ll love this!

We also had their Mini Unagi Don (S$16.80). Their unagi comes with a thin and crisp skin, and the sweet unagi sauce gets absorbed by the rice!
We rounded off our meal with ice cream. Most of their ice cream flavours sell at S$3.80, but the Custard Mochi flavour costs S$5.80. We tried the Goma (Black Sesame) and Grape ice cream, and black sesame definitely wins with its rich, creamy texture and strong sesame fragrance!
​The grape ice cream, meanwhile, is tangy and similar to sorbet. Its taste reminded me of the Fanta grape drink!
Who Satori is best for

If you need a dining spot to chill at after a long day of work, Satori is just the place for you. The faint background music and cosy ambience add to its relaxing atmosphere.

The nearest MRT station is Telok Ayer (DT18). Head towards exit A and walk for approximately 4 minutes.
Do we recommend Satori?

Yes, we do! While Satori specialises in their yakitori offerings, they also feature pork, beef and vegetable skewers, so you can mix and match your favourite skewers for a customised meal. They offer mains and hot pot too.
