For legit pastries by an ex-Tiong Bahru Bakery baker, head to New Deli Bakery. This under-the-radar bakery is a short walk from Tampines East MRT Station. Located under an HDB block, the takeaway store offers freshly baked croissants and pastries, alongside a small coffee menu. Their French Butter Croissant ($4.50) is a classic; otherwise, get the Vanilla Kouign-amann ($5), made with French butter and vanilla bean pods from Papua New Guinea. You’ll find all the Nanyang classics here, including the Seleyang Big Bowl Curry Mee ($9.90++), where a huge bowl of yellow noodles is topped with beancurd skin, boiled egg, fried pork belly, and prawns, then doused with a rich and hearty curry. Popular Hainanese cafe chain The Hainan Story has an outlet at Tampines Mall Basement 1. We featured the brand in our recent best kopi in Singapore guide, and enjoyed their iced coffee, specifically the Kopi C Siew Dai Bing ($3.10) and Three Treasures ($4.80): a mix of kopi, teh, and Milo. 6. Puff and Peaks

Puffs And Peaks is a popular bakery-cafe with two stores in Tampines, including a dine-in cafe at Tampines Changkat CC. Good news: both outlets accept CDC Vouchers!

We recommend their best-selling Brookie ($4), a half-chocolate chip, half-brownie cookie made with Valrhona dark chocolate chunks, as with the Pandan Coconut Egg Tart ($5.50): house-made puff pastry encasing a smooth and custardy pandan filling. There are savoury items too, including Mushroom Caramelised Onion Quiche ($6.50) and Gochujang Chicken Mayo Sandwich ($9.50).

Homegrown bakery Fieldnotes, known for its cakes and tarts, has a takeaway kiosk in Basement 1 of the mall. We recommend their Honey Yuzu Slice ($9.27) and Mango Yuzu Slice ($9.27), which and light and tangy, perfect for teatime. There’s also the Strawberry Yuzu Tart ($9.70): sweet and buttery tart base with vanilla chiffon, strawberry cream, and tangy yuzu curd, topped with fresh strawberries.

The cafe opens till 2am on the weekends, so night owls can get their dessert fix! ICYMI: Tart speciality store Wunderfolks has a takeaway kiosk at Tampines Mall.  You can get their best-selling tarts here, priced at $8 each. Here’s a tip: order a box of six tarts at $42, so each piece goes for $7 instead! When we visited their store in 2023, we enjoyed their Dark Chocolate tart and Mixed Fruit tart: sweet shortcrust pastry base with a light vanilla custard, topped with fresh blueberries, strawberry slices, grapes, and peaches.

These buns are soft with an addictively chewy middle, making them oh so fun to snack on! Order their Half Chicken ($13.50++) or Whole Chicken ($25.50++), starring chicken that’s brined for over 12 hours with fresh herbs and spices, then slow-roasted over a charcoal grill on-site, before it’s served to your table. If you frequent Tampines Mall, you’d have come across Ging Sun Ho King of Bun at Basement 1 of the mall. The popular Shanghainese chain from Hong Kong offers legit yet affordable Shanghainese cuisine: sheng jian bao, noodles, dumplings and more.

We recommend their famous Signature Pan-Fried Pork Soup Bun AKA sheng jian bao, priced at $4+ for two and $7.80+ for four. Handmade fresh on-site, these bao come with a generous pork and soup filling that bursts upon biting. Their signature Obihiro Meibutsu Butadon is a must-order, priced at $11.80++ for a regular bowl and $15.80++ for large. You get grilled Spanish pork loin pieces atop short-grain rice, and everything is drizzled with a 90-year-old secret sauce that’s smoky, savoury, and sweet. There are other variations of this dish, including a Spicy (from $13.80++) version. You can get value-for-money Korean fare at POCHA, a family-friendly restaurant in Tampines Mall. For quality donburi bowls without breaking the bank, head to Aburi-EN at Tampines 1. You’ll be treated to hearty rice bowls mostly priced under $20++, ranging from Roast Wagyu Don ($18.90++) to Truffle Kaisen Bara Chirashi Don ($19.90++). When we visited their Chinatown outlet, we enjoyed the Truffle Roast Wagyu Don ($19.90++), which came with a generous portion of Australian roast Wagyu slices, topped with truffle paste, shimeji mushrooms, and an onsen egg on the side.

The restaurant bar also offers a good selection of highballs, and draft beers, so it’s the perfect spot for TGIF drinks!

If you’re looking for legit zi char in Tampines, head to Keng Eng Kee (KEK) Seafood, located within Tampines SAFRA. The homegrown brand has been around for three generations and counting, with multiple accolades under its name.

The menu is super extensive, with mainstays including their famous Coffee Pork Ribs (from $19.80+), Salted Egg Prawns (from $27.80+), and Signature Chilli Crab (from $88+). While these dishes go well with plain rice, we recommend their Signature Moonlight Hor Fun (from $10.80+), a KEK classic starring hor fun wok-fried with lup cheong, prawns, and sliced fish, topped with a raw egg or two.
