On 17 Sep at the Meta Connect 2025 event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the company’s latest innovation in AI smart glasses — the Meta Ray-Ban Display.
But is this new product actually ground-breaking? Or is it just an over-optimistic view of the future? Let us know what you think as we break down its main features!
First AI glasses with an in-lens display

The Meta Ray-Ban Display is Meta’s latest pair of innovative AI smart glasses. But what makes it different from its previous generations is the fact that it has an actual working display within the lens. It is the first device to have this functionality seamlessly incorporated into the lens, paired with controls using a wristband.
The in-lens display shows vital information such as map directions, notifications and messages, and can also display photos & videos. With a bright, high-resolution display, the interface is clear and sharp in any lighting conditions, yet is not visible from the outside-in, protecting users’ privacy. All these are also shown on the right lens so that the user’s field of view is not obstructed. Pop-ups also go away when not needed.
While taking photos and videos, the Meta Ray-Ban Display’s viewfinder allows you to frame your shots. There is also an LED indicator that lights up when the device is recording, letting others know when it is capturing content.
All these technologies are packed into a sleek, convincing design that can blend in to everyday situations. The glasses even have transition lenses that turn them into sunglasses when you’re out on a sunny day. The Meta Ray-Ban Display will be available in 2 colours – Black and Sand.
Neural Band gestures and controls

Another thing that impressed us during Zuckerberg’s demonstration (despite some fails) was the intuitivene Neural Band wristband. This is a stylish wristband that comes with the Meta Ray-Ban Display and functions as its main controller. Just with simple gestures like pinches, taps and wrist-turns, you are able to reply to messages, answer video calls and control your music volume. It’s perfect for those of us who prefer silent interactions over conversing with Meta AI out loud in public. Oh yes, the glasses are still powered by Meta AI, and you can request on-screen assistance at any time.
Perhaps the most mind-blowing feature to us is that you can use your fingers to write replies to messages, just by making writing gestures on a surface, like your lap or a table. The Neural Band is so intelligent that it detects what letters you intend to write.

Another neat feature is being able to turn on live captions during face-to-face conversations with people. This is basically real-life subtitles appearing on your glasses as you’re talking to someone, so that you don’t miss anything they say. I imagine that this would be extra helpful for hearing-impaired users or if you’re conversing with someone in another language, because — you guessed it, live translation is also available.

The Meta Ray-Ban Display will be available in the United States starting 30 Sep at US$799. There is currently no news on whether if it will be coming to Asia or Singapore. But we definitely hope that it will, because for the first time, this appears to be a genuinely useful and usable smart eye device.
