About Aval Payasam
Poha payasam also known aval payasam or poha kheer is a simple kheer recipe made with poha, jaggery, coconut milk. For a twist I added ripe banana and coconut which adds texture, aroma and taste.
You can skip banana for this kheer but I like the texture it gives the kheer.

Here are some of my tips and tricks for getting deeper tasting pradhaman or payasam. Whenever you use jaggery in a payasam, make sure you take your time to cook it well. Not only it deepens the flavour, but adds a caramel like note to it.
So as soon as I add jaggery to the kheer, I cook it together for 4 to 5 minutes. In this payasam, I added some ripe banana because my mom used to add it.
Ingredients

Poha – I used red rice poha or aval for this recipe. You can use white flattened rice.
Coconut – freshly grated coconut adds texture and taste to the payasam.
Coconut milk – thick or thin coconut milk, used as payasam or pradhaman. It adds flavour and taste.
Cardamom – i used this as flavouring. You can add a pinch of ground ginger for this payasam.
Jaggery – use molasses rich jaggery or sarkarai for this kheer. I used powdered jaggery which adds flavour.
Ghee – add good quality ghee for payasam.
Nuts – I used chopped badam, cashews, kishmish adds taste.
