2. Ji Tuo Hong Kong Style Dim Sum

Tucked away in an industrial area, Ji Tuo Hong Kong Style Dim Sum has a rather small menu, with only 14 items to choose from. But that’s not to say their offerings aren’t worth a try; the Fried Carrot Cake is touted as soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, affordably priced at $3.50 for three. Other value-for-money items include the Beijing Style Dumplings ($3.50 for five) and Custard Buns ($3.50 for three).

4. Xin Cuisine

Located at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium is Xin Cuisine, an award-winning Chinese restaurant known for its contemporary takes on traditional Cantonese cuisine, including dim sum. Start your meal with familiar favourites such as the Barbecued Pork Buns ($8.80++ for three), Shrimp and Fish Row Har Gao ($10.80++ for three), and Custard Bun with Salted Egg Yolk ($8.80++ for three). Then, supplement these classics with their elevated counterparts: the Chicken Feet with Black Pepper Sauce ($7.80++ for one portion), for instance, is unlike your traditional chicken feet with black bean sauce; the one at Xin Cusine is served dry with a rich, peppery sauce coating each piece.

5. Hua Ji Bao Dang

Hua Ji Bao Dang doesn’t have the most extensive menu on this list, but that doesn’t mean their dim sum offerings are any less superb. Their renowned buns, such as the Red Bean Bao, Char Siew Bao, and Lotus Paste Bao, go for just $1.30 a pop. Other dim sum classics are really affordable as well—the Siew Mai ($1.30) and Glutinous Rice ($2.40) certainly won’t make a dent in your wallet, so try and see if it’s to your liking!
Hua Ji Bao Dang is temporarily closed and we encourage you to check their website for the latest updates on their reopening.

6. Nian Nian Fa Dim Sum

The low prices belie the excellent dim sum at Nian Nian Fa Dim Sum, a hawker stall run by a former Hong Kong chef. Try their Turnip Cake ($1.50) and Shrimp Dumpling ($1.20 each)—the former has a strong radish fragrance made better by the house-made chilli, and for the latter, you can expect fresh and succulent diced prawn enveloped in a crispy wonton skin.

7. Tim Ho Wan

Tim Ho Wan was established by a chef formerly from the prestigious three Michelin-starred Lung King Heen restaurant in Hong Kong. This is why Tim Ho Wan is often called the most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant in the world! My favourite is the Pork and Shrimp Dumplings in Hot and Spicy Sauce ($8.50++ for six), served with Sichuan-style chilli and vinegar. Alternatively, try the Pan-Fried Radish Cake ($6.30++ for three) or the Deep-Fried Garlic Pepper Pork Chop ($8.50++) to substantiate your meal.

8. The Dim Sum Place

The Dim Sum Place has made a name for itself as one of the few halal-certified dim sum restaurants in Singapore, and the constant snaking queues outside their orange storefront are a testament to that.
Must-orders are the Crystal Shrimp Dumpling ($6.90++ for three) and Deep Fried Beancurd Skin With Shrimp ($8.90++ for three). For mala lovers, try the Steamed Chicken & Mala Xiao Long Bao Combo ($7.90++ for four), which features two pieces of orange dumplings loaded with mala broth and two pieces of juicy chicken filling.

9. Tang Tea House
zhImage credit: @nurizat
Specialising in Chinese halal dishes is Tang Tea House, which also offers a comprehensive dim sum selection. FYI, the restaurant accepts CDC Vouchers, too!
Essentially a liu sha bao, their Golden Sand Bun ($5++ for three) comes highly recommended. We hear it’s best enjoyed when it’s hot. For savouries, get the Shanghai Steamed Dumpling ($5.50++ for four), which bursts with flavourful broth in your mouth. For classics, they also have Siew Mai ($4.70++ for three), Pan-Fried Carrot Cake ($3.80 for two), and Deep-Fried Shrimp Dumpling ($5.20++ for three).

10. Kuai San Dian Xin

Starting our list is Kuai San Dian Xin, where everything on the menu goes for $1.50. As one of the cheapest dim sum eateries in Singapore, you can pile on the plates without fear of going broke.
Their menu is extensive, ranging from classics such as Siew Mai to comfort dishes like Carrot Cake. My personal favourite is the HK Style Prawn Chee Cheong Fun, with silky rice flour noodles encasing juicy prawns. What’s more, most of their outlets operate for 24 hours, which means you get to enjoy dim sum goodness at any time of the day.

11. Hong Kong Zhai Dim Sum
Hong Kong Zhai Dim Sum Restaurant is a popular dim sum eatery at Marina Square with an affordable menu—most of the items are under $10! You won’t go wrong with their Creamy Custard Bun ($5.20), where pandan-infused buns are packed with a molten salted egg filling. Another popular sweet treat is the Sesame Creamy Custard Ball ($4.90), featuring three chewy balls coated with black sesame seeds, and filled with a viscous salted egg yolk core.
Regulars also love their classic Siew Mai ($4.50 for three), Prawn Dumpling ($4.90 for three), and Fried Beancurd Skin Roll ($4.90 for three)!

12. Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House
On top of The Dim Sum Place, Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House prides itself on its halal menu of Chinese delights and handmade dim sum. Chilli crab addicts will be happy with the Shanghai Steamed Dumpling With Chilli Crab ($6.50), where xiao long bao are filled with luscious chilli crab sauce instead. Other dishes include Salted Egg Sotong ($27.50), Kampong Fried Rice ($8.10) and even Roasted Chicken Rice ($5.70), so if you’re looking to plan a family feast and want a variety of options to please everyone, Enak Enak Hong Kong Tea House is one for the books.

Another affordable dim sum spot to check out is Zi Yean Restaurant, with a wide range of offerings in an air-conditioned setting. The Xiao Long Bao ($8.50 for six) are some of the best you can find at that price. Continue the hype with their Steamed Truffle Mushroom Bun ($6 for three), adorably shaped like actual mushrooms. Besides dim sum, they also have an extensive range of Chinese dishes such as the Braised Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetable ($19), Beef Hor Fun with Black Bean Sauce ($18), and even Steamed Live Frog with Essense Chicken ($28), if you dare.

14. Sum Dim Sum

You might recognise Sum Dim Sum from its striking Tiffany blue storefront. Aesthetics aside, they offer scrumptious dim sum at reasonable prices.
As opposed to Tim Ho Wan’s famous rendition, their Signature Pandan Crispy Pork Buns ($6.60++) star a green crust that’s pandan flavoured. Here, the Fried Carrot Cake ($5.50+ for three) is also unlike the usual—it’s topped with ikan bilis, fried shallots, sesame seeds, and sliced red chilli for a kick of spice. For something different, consider the Malay Sponge Cake ($4.40++) or the Bamboo Roll with Oyster Sauce ($5++) instead. Finally, end the meal with the refreshing Osmanthus Jelly ($5.20++).

Specialities such as the Mee Suah Kueh ($3.30++ for two) are must-haves during your visit. For the custard lovers, get the Salted Egg Custard Yolk Bao ($5.80++ for three) or the Sweet Potato Salted Egg Custard Ball ($3.80++ for two) for the ultimate molten custard ooze.

Other tasty dim sum include the HK-Style Pan-Fried Cheong Fun ($5.90) and the fan-favourite Egg Tarts ($4.90 for two).
